Elyse Tedesco did not think her chances of winning a winter’s supply of hay were very good
when she submitted her online entry, but she was motivated. “All that hay! I have multiple horses and hay is an expense,” said Tedesco, who was facing another year’s winter hay bills for the horses that she cares for at Wind Song Farm in Wrentham, Massachusetts.
Tedesco was at her farm with her horses when notified that she was the winner of the Horse Health Products second annual Winter Hay Giveaway sweepstakes and her winter’s hay bills would be paid up to $10,000.
“For horse owners like Elyse with multiple horses, hay is a major part of the winter feed bill,” said Audy Baack, Director of Marketing, Horse Health Products, a division of Farnam Companies, Inc. “The average 1,000-pound horse will consume from 10 to 20 pounds of hay each day, depending on the use and management of the horse.”
Tedesco says that she has been riding since age five, but adds that her mother put her on a pony at age two, and she cried because she didn’t want to get off. Today, she rides English (hunt-seat), Dressage and Western, and has been a licensed instructor in these three disciplines since 1992. Tedesco taught at two farms before buying her own where she instructs both adults and children. “Teaching is a great feeling; you can pass on a skill and see your students’ accomplishments while having a good time,” said Tedesco. “Plus they learn to care and be responsible for an animal.”
The barn at Tedesco’s farm has five stalls which currently house her three geldings: Mr. TB Moon, a 30-year-old registered Paint (Overo) that she has had since he was nine; Irons Rebel, a 14-year-old registered Quarter Horse that she has had since he was five; and Brokers Blue Chip, a 16-year-old registered Paint (Overo) that she acquired just this past summer. Sharing barn space with her three horses is a seven-year-old, ex-trotter named Boomer that she boards.
“Horses have always been my life’s passion,” said Tedesco. “I worked for my own and care for them. They are the most beautiful, amazing, noble animals.”
“Horse Health Products provides horse owners with essential, hardworking horse care solutions that they can trust. By providing a winter’s supply of hay, we can help Elyse meet a primary need of her horses. Ten thousand dollars buys a lot of hay and Horse Health Products is pleased to be able to relieve Elyse of the burden of her winter’s hay bills this year,” added Baack.
