MIAMI, Florida – May 23, 2016 – The College Preparatory Invitational (CPI) has broadened their program to include student riders from 8th grade in their 2017 events and to add an entry level, walk-trot-canter division to their two horse show events. Now in its 7thyear, the CPI program allows young equestrians to explore the college equestrian experience through a comprehensive education, competition and scholarship / community service program. The CPI hopes to encourage middle school students to explore college programs through CPI and take advantage of opportunities to differentiate themselves using the CPI program. The addition of a walk-trot-canter division is a natural evolution to provide an entry-level class and one that mimics what is offered in familiar IEA and IHSA competition formats.
During the CPI event, riders experience the college equestrian competition format and win scholarships in hunt seat equitation competition; they can explore an equestrian-focused college fair, attend educational presentations and take advantage of the opportunity for direct conversations with college admissions representatives and equestrian tem coaches.
“We are frequently approached by middle school riders who are interested in attending the CPI events,” said CPI President, Lindsay Martin. “Opening the program up to 8th graders and adding the walk-trot-canter division was a way to accommodate that demand, and a natural evolution to our growing program.”
The cost to apply for CPI is $30.00, which is then applied toward the $530.00 program fee/ $430.00 for the walk-trot-canter division. The fee includes CPI horse show entries, access to the college fair and event speakers, and sponsor-hosted social events throughout the weekend. All participants are also eligible for CPI scholarships and in 2016 the organization awarded nearly $5,000 in scholarships at their two events.

The CPI is a three-day event designed to educate student riders about the different formats of college equestrian competitions and provide riders with resources to help them create their desired college equestrian experience. Riders in grades 8 through 12 have a chance to win scholarships in hunt seat equitation competition and participate in educational presentations throughout the event.
