Many essential oils are available when working with allergies. I have found horses consistently choose the following oils to deal with their allergies:
FRANKINCENSE contains anti-inflammatory, expectorant and tonic properties that help with the lungs and digestive system.
GERMAN CHAMOMILE contains a constituent called chamazulene, known for its anti-histamine characteristics.
PEPPERMINT and SWEET MARJORAM have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, expectorant and stomachic properties which will help with the lungs and digestive system.
Please note when working with essential oils and animals, the essential oil should always be diluted in an edible vegetable base oil, such as safflower oil, before being offered (do not use canola oil for a base oil).
For horses suffering from itchy skin, dermatitis, or hives because of allergies, a proprietary blend of apricot kernel oil and essential oils with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and fungicidal properties may alleviate the discomfort and promote healing.
