North Brookfield, MA (August 12, 2017) For the first time in central Massachusetts, natural horsemanship trainer Farah DeJohnette will present a class in Horse Conformation, Movement and Biomechanics, August 27 at Ohana Farm in North Brookfield, to teach owners and would-be owners to develop a critical eye for identifying and assessing correct movement and posture faults, and understand the difference between a true, correct frame versus poor or false posture. We will help horses strengthen and improve their musculature to optimal function, and address what may not be a conformation fault but a structural misalignment, that can be improved through chiropractic work and biomechanical exercises, says Farah. We'll start with conformation and how it affects movement, the impact of nature versus nurture, and good versus difficult biomechanics and posture. We will also look at different horse types standing still and at the walk, trot and canter in both directions. Participants will get worksheets where they can comment on each horse. Smartphones for taking photos and recording video are optional. Participants are invited to bring their horses for evaluation AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE or photos of their horse standing square, in full profile on an even surface. The one-day class, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm, is $65 per person, and will also cover what good conformation means to different breeds or types; the meanings of compensatory conformation and movement; faults that can be improved through chiropractic work; what constitutes good movement, and how to help your horse improve its gaits; how the hoof reflects repetitive movement and posture; and how biomechanics relate to movement, balance and suppleness. On October 1, Ohana Farm will host its annual Beach Ride Clinic, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, RI. Do you fantasize about riding on the beach? Then this all- levels clinic is for you and registration is open now! Farah will lead participants in ground and mounted skills and (conditions permitting) enjoying the water. If you are a fearful rider, come and work at your, and your horses pace, to build trust and confidence in one another. Ride or do groundwork, or both, depending on what your comfort zone is, she encourages. You will be responsible for getting to the beach but if you need help finding trucking, we may be able to assist you. Some lease horses may also be available. Bring a lunch and snacks, and a hay net for your horse, as well as tack you won't mind getting wet. The clinic is $150 and current Coggins/health certificates are necessary.
