Black Cohosh
( Cimicifuga racemosa ) is an herb often considered for use during menopause, particularly when hot flashes are involved. "A recent case-controlled study suggests this herb may also prevent the development of breast cancer . Remefemin, a proprietary extract available in health food stores and some pharmacies, was linked to lowering the risk of progesterone receptor positive breast cancer" (1). It is agreed that more research is needed; the researchers indicate this offers a new perspective on this plant and hope for women at risk.
