Geographic and climate variations may help you decide if solar panels are the way to go.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on any type of roofing?
A: Asphalt, metal roofing and flat membrane roofing are the best. Slate can be a problem.
Q: If roof installation is not an option, what other features would our property need?
A: Ground mounting a fixed or tracking system can be ideal where space is not a concern, i.e., a farm.
Q: Are all North American geographic locations suitable for solar energy? Certain climate zones better than others?
A: Climate does effect solar production. Let's not lump solar Photo Voltaic (PV) with solar hot water. Solar hot water works better in warmer climates. Solar PV, where panels make electricity, works better with long hours of sunlight.
