Fish in water tanks

I’ve had fish in my water troughs for years. I’ve never fed them and they keep the water clean. I’m on well water and keep some dripping in the tanks all year round. We get snow and they just hibernate in the bottom of the tanks until the sun comes out. The tanks are much cleaner with the fish in them. Not sure what the issue is. Every stable I know of in our area does the same thing.

Fish In water tanks

My grampas cement water trough always had bluegill from the creek. They eat the algae that builds up as well as insect larvae.

LAZY PEOPLE CAN'T CLEAN THE WATER

THAT IS DISGUSTING , I CANT BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE SO LAZY TO NOT CLEAN THEIR HORSES WATER TROUGH , I WOULD LIKE TO SHOVE THEIR HEAD IN THAT AND MAKE THEM DRINK THAT STANK

Whoa lady

It’s not a matter of being lazy. I would like to find a way to keep from dumping out 75ish gallons of water on a regular basis to keep algae at bay. Also, last time I checked streams and lakes where horses would naturally drink are filled with fish. Judge much?
