Everything you'll need to know as you prepare an article for submission to Holistic Horse ....
Thank you for your interest and willingness to contribute an article to Holistic Horse . To aid both your article preparation and our production process, please review the guidelines provided here, and let us know if you have questions or need additional assistance.
Topic
Holistic Horse includes articles on a broad range of subjects, with the obvious focus on holistic approaches. Aromatherapy, acupressure, acupuncture, communications, chiropractic, energy healing, herbal therapy, homeopathy, laser therapy, magnetics, and massage are some of the many alternative care topics we feature.
Article length and format
Unless different arrangements have been made with an HH editor, your article should be 750 to 1000 words, supplied as a Word or text file with no special formatting. You may suggest a headline and include subheads within your text where you deem appropriate. Please do not incorporate photographs or other images in the text (that just makes more work for us!). Instead, supply your artwork files separately.
Please name your article file with your last name (or initials will do) and a 2-3 word description. For example, if our Editor Ellen Haight submitted an article about her impressions of a recent seminar on herbal supplements, the article file name might be EHaight herb seminar .
Artwork
Whenever possible, we like to complement all articles with photographs or other images. If you have some photos pertaining to your topic, great! Prints (glossy are preferred over matte) may be mailed to Holistic Horse, 84 Irish Meetinghouse Rd, Perkasie, PA 18944. We will scan them at the appropriate resolution. If your images are already in electronic format, for best results:
♦ save as JPG, TIF or GIF files
♦ save at a high resolution (minimum 300 dpi)
♦ size approximately 4 x 3 inches
♦ save each image separately
♦ include author name in the photo filename
Remember to provide captions for any photos you supply. Also, if someone other than you took the photo, we must have permission to use it and should acknowledge him or her with a photo credit.
If you have no artwork to accompany your article, we welcome your suggestions on appropriate images. Perhaps we can provide likely candidates.
Bio photo and info
At the end of your article, we like to include a photo of you and a 30-50 word mini-bio (a brief explanation of what you do, your special areas of expertise, and contact information, including your website, if available).
Where to Send It
If your text and photos are on a disk or CD, or if you have printed photos, please send to Holistic Horse, 84 Irish Meetinghouse Rd, Perkasie, PA 18944. E-mailed items should be sent to stacey@holistichorse.com AND carolyn@holistichorse.com – please be sure to include HOLISTIC HORSE in the subject line!
Copyright Assignment
To protect your rights and ours, a signed Copyright release is required. Once your article is accepted for publication, you will receive the release form detailing the terms and conditions for your article’s inclusion in Holistic Horse .
One final note: with anything you are sending us – electronically or via snail mail – please be sure to include your full name, phone number, mailing address, and e-mail address/website.
Again, thank you for your interest in contributing to Holistic Horse !
