Dr. Robson states, “Too often the horse is blamed for being bad or intentionally trying to anger its owner. We must learn to take a step back and listen to what the horse is trying to tell us. Most behavioral and training issues are merely the horse’s expression of pain.” The book and DVD were completed to aid everyday horse-people. “Owners and riders may recognize that something’s not right with their horse but don’t know where to turn for help. Alternatively, they may be unable to identify problems not accompanied by traditional signs of lameness such as a head-nod, or holding up a leg. Problems such as bucking, refusing to go forward, trouble with hills, biting when saddled, head-tossing, lead problems, and more are signs of equine pain. The majority of issues are caused by pinching saddles, inappropriate training equipment, and rider imbalance.” The book and DVD are designed to help people understand why this happens. Both resources provide significant information about the anatomy of saddle-fitting, and integrative veterinary medicine – how and why acupuncture and veterinary chiropractic really do work! Watching actual patients go through saddle-fitting evaluations and receive treatments in the DVD can help people to understand what’s involved in an evaluation and treatment, and what to look for in a professional offering these services. The book and the DVD are must-haves for any equine library, and will be handy resources for both experienced and novice horse-people. “Recognizing the Horse in Pain…And What You Can Do About It!” are both available online.
