2018 Homes for Horses Coalition Conference, being held Friday through Sunday, September 21 - 23 in Orlando, FL. This is the only national conference designed for horse rescues and sanctuaries or anyone in the equine welfare and protection community. The conference kicks off Friday afternoon with a spirited session for organizations to share their best ideas followed by a networking reception and roundtable discussions. Networking with likeminded individuals is one of the highlights of the conference.
Saturday will be a full day of workshops on important topics such as launching an effective capital campaign, engaging trainers in equine welfare work, boosting board performance, branding, animal crimes prosecution and a panel on improving adoptions. Speakers include subject matter experts such as Certified Fundraising Expert, Kent Stroman, ASPCA Equine Investigator, Kyle Held and Senior Creative Director for The Humane Society of the United States, Jennifer Beel. We will be joined by well-known dressage trainer, Yvonne Bartreau, Trevor Carter of Carter Ranch Horse and Daisy Erdmann, trainer for the SPCA of Texas. The adoptions panel will include representatives from some of the most effective equine welfare organizations in the country including, Erin Ochoa of Days End Farm Horse Rescue, Christine Hajek of Gentle Giants, Elaine Nash of Fleet of Angels and Nancy Turner of This Old Horse.
For the first time, a hands-on equine training clinic has been added to the schedule. This clinic taught by Trevor Carter of The Humane Society of the United States’ Forever Foundation program will be held at an off-site facility on Sunday and is included with registration for the conference.
“Being able to ask questions directly related to your own issues and struggles, and to get constructive advice from experts is a whole lot more productive than going it alone. We all face challenges in our equine protection work, and getting relevant feedback can help,” said Cindy Gendron, Manager of The Homes for Horses Coalition. “Hearing in person what is working well for others, and tailoring it to fit your own needs, can make a big difference in sustainability,” said Gendron.
Because of the generosity of the Coalition’s sponsoring organizations, the conference is offered at minimal registration cost. To top off a weekend of learning and networking, attendees will have the opportunity to relax and have fun, something many of them don’t get to do often because of their enormous responsibilities and commitment to the equines in their care.
